The DC Comics Universe, in the same way as the Marvel Comics Universe , covers dozens of superheroes and villains who mostly all exist within the same world. DC absorbed the characters of several smaller publishers over the years, such as Charlston, but their most popular characters remain among their first: Superman, Batman, the Justice League, and others.
In 1985 DC rebooted its continuity for the first time with Infinite Crisis, and event that merged all the seperate worlds and continuities of DC into a single world. In 2011 they would do this again with the New 52, this time not even including a rationale for the event and just restarting every character with only the most well known aspects of each.
